Mercedes-Benz Fashion Days Zurich: 2012 schedule
I remember the time when Berlin Fashion Week was still this young and fresh – and not mature at all. But impressively, the change of the title sponsoring seems to have changed also the event to a grown-up design week. And boy, did it grow up!
The opening night is no longer a presentation of a verticals private labels accompanied by some c-list celebrities – it is real designers! The fresh and colourful MSGM di Massimo Giorgetti, the clear and modern Marco de Vincenzo, Angelos Bratis whose stunning satin dresses for this winter are on most shopping lists in Milan (see below photo of the winter 2012-13 collection by Angelos Bratis), the beautiful Mila Schön - and there is even one more to be confirmed. I will keep you posted…
The second evening will include the annabelle award show as well as shows by wonderful women dressed in van Bery, strong men in Laend Phuengkit and – who I am really looking forward to – designs by the impressive Claudia Zuber. The finale of the evening will be, as already announced, the unstoppable queen of sophisticated leather and grown-up rock’n'roll style, Barbara Bui. (Oh, I need new shoes…!)
Also the local designers for Friday night appear more handpicked than last year: the three names from the annabelle night will be joined by the female curve defenders of Portenier Roth and the new men’s wear star of Switzerland Marc Stone. Furthermore the show will include LBD White which is the exclusive wedding line of Little Black Dress, Kazu and – another highlight to me – the talented Javier Reyes. Heart-shaped nipple covers and distracting movies seem rather unlikely with this line-up.
And for Saturday night – the grand finale – it’s Dawid Tomaszweski (you will definitely remember his name after the show…!), Turkish superstar Arzu Kaprol and, one of the big stars of last Berlin Fashion Week, the master of flowing fabric Dimitri (note to self: do try to sneak away with one of those stunning dresses!). AND… one of the leading designers of contemporary American fashion – the amazing Charlotte Ronson (see below photo by Fashion TV)! Who’d've thought they could get HER to show her collection in Zurich after the massive impact it had at New York Fashion Week? That’s amazing!
Significant for the new program is that there is no department store showing a brand (in the name of the actual brand) anymore. It’s designers – international and national – and it’s designers only. Before receiving the program, I was just curious – NOW I’m really looking forward to the Fashion Days Zurich 2012!
