Best of Fashion Week Paris Summer 2013 – Women’s Wear Part Six
Part six of our best of women’s wear from Fashion Week Paris - alphabetically, as usual…
Soft ice cream coloured flattery contradicting stiff collars and acrylic see-through elements. Hard metallic details keeping together asymmetric quilling. Strong back and white looks presented with a rare female elegance. Obviously, the mature glamour has returned to Givenchy! I haven’t seen such an interesting collection by Givenchy since… McQueen left? I am very impressed. Thank you, Riccardo Tisci. Mmmmmmore, please?
Everybody was waiting for this. Everybody was excited for this. And everybody had an opinion even before seeing anything. And now they all have to say just this: “Hats off for Saint Laurent!” For those of you who haven’t witnessed it: the new creative director Hedi Slimane has cancelled the Yves in Yves Saint Laurent and therewith risked quite some bad feedback. There has rarely been any other show with such a who-is-who in the audience: Selma Hayek sat next to Kate Moss, while even Vivienne Westwood and Marc Jacobs couldn’t resist watching this premiere.
So here it is, the new Saint Laurent - still polarizing the audience but worth a second glance: Clearly rendering homage to the strong 1960′s and 1970′s of the house and quoting classic Yves Saint Laurent elements like the women’s tuxedo, the spark still wouldn’t really make a fire. There is strong rumours that some journalists even stopped taking notes after barely half of the show – and that’s never a good sign. For me personally, this collection had a bit too much of Zorro and was clearly too dark for a summer collection but in the end, the consumer decides… So form an opinion yourself and enjoy the fashionable fuzz around it all:
Dear Stella McCartney, you are clearly much more than just some famous man’s daughter. You are a great designer. You are my star, lalala lalala… Wasn’t there this line in a Coldplay song? Well, forget that – I’m just dreaming away into Summer 2013, wearing the new Stella McCartney designs. “Round them up! …but be gentle.” – “Building strong arms in fragile fabric.” – “Turn up the volume but stay smooth.” – … All those could have been mottos of this Stella McCartney collection and still wouldn’t be enough to tell you about it… So have a look yourself:
