First pictures of Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

The collaboration of Maison Martin Margiela and H&M has been discussed more than any other designer collaboration of the Swedish vertical before. Can an avand-garde designer brand serve the H&M customer? Does Maison Martin Margiela loose credibility amongst their fashion fans? Many questions that only the future can answer…

According to WWD, the British photographer and visual artist Samantha Taylor-Johnson (professionally known as Sam Taylor-Wood) directed the photo shoot for the campaign. On 8 November there is even a series of short films to be published to push the release date. All models appear to be normal people (if models can look like you and me at all) strolling around Paris – but always with a little magic in the moments. It’s not the usual in-your-face-here’s-the-price-campaign you’d expect from a high street shop. After all, Mrs Taylor-Wood was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2011 Birthday Honours for services to the Arts.

“Working with such an anarchic house as Martin Margiela alongside a high-street brand was a challenge that creatively became a crazy, fun project,” said Taylor-Wood, who collaborated with the creative director Markus Kiersztan on the project. Taylor-Wood added: “I wanted to create an atmosphere that was both quiet and still. That each person was in their own emotional and physical thought space. A world away from the heady atmosphere of the usual urban noise.”
