5QA Rob Holub / Singer

Welcome to the next DiasOfDiaz Q&A special! This is my way of letting you know more details about the “little treasures” that I give away: small designer brands, models… In today’s 5QA (5 questions answered) I’ve caught you a so far well-kept secret: singer Rob Holub. The first time I met him was in the famous Rockwood Music Hall in New York City where her performed with a couple of other cool guys – and I was blown away! Sitting there at his piano he found the perfect balance between real concert and bar entertainment. And when my friend told me that he is Swiss I was even more impressed. Was there not this cliché about the Swiss being shy and not so risky? Well, here it was, the prove that clichés are rarely true: Meet self-confident, but self-deprecating and laid-back, but unintrusive Rob. :-)

DiasOfDiaz: The top 5 of your current playlist (laptop – iPod – whatever)?

Rob Holub: 1. Hawskley Workman “No Beginning No End” - 2. James Blake “The Wilhem Scream” - 3. My Pet Dragon “Painter” - 4. M83 “Midnight City” - 5. David’s Lyre – “fall”

DiasOfDiaz: What are you hearing/listening to – NOW?

Rob Holub: Etienne Daho – Best of Singles (french singer)

DiasOfDiaz: Name 5 things you would never travel without.

Rob Holub: Ipod, sun glasses, credit card – seriously, that’s it. I don’t need more…

DiasOfDiaz: When you get off the stage after your performance, what would you like your audience to say / feel / do?

Rob Holub: I’m a humble person and don’t expect anybody to do anything after my shows. But if I get a warm hug, an honest compliment for my performance or simply a big smile from somebody I don’t know…that’s all very rewarding. In other words…no, I don’t need teddy bears or girls panties flying around on stage…hmmm…let me rethink the latter… ;-)

DiasOfDiaz: Three people you would like to have dinner with tonight (dead or alive)? And why, of course…

Rob Holub: 1. Sir Paul Mc Cartney – He’s a music genius and I admire his everlasting creative output and fresh energy. I’d wanna talk music with him over a bottle of red for sure!

2. Cameron Diaz – I’d like to know from her personally why she never calls me back. Or in case I got the wrong number this way at least she could give me the right one. Once we got that sorted out I would simply enjoy her presence ;-)

3. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Well, if he was alive. I think it would be interesting, after drinks and dinner, to co-write a song. Yes, I think that’d be amazing!

Rob Holub started playing piano when he was only six years old and recorded his first song about ten years later. Today he has three homes: New York City, Bern and Zurich. This mixture is as eclectic as his styles in music: when Europe meets the USA… In 2012 Rob will be touring mainly in Europe. Check his website robholubmusic.com for updates on the tour – it’s worth it.

My favourite song so far: Pick me up. (Click on the image to watch the clip on YouTube.)

Rob on the road: frequent traveling is a must in this job. Still he always manages to be friendly, funny and positive.
