Limelight Marketplace / New York City
In the 80′s this venue was a discotheque – now it is a concept store (or marketplace): the Limelight Marketplace. Oh, and actually this was a church… Come at night (or at least while it’s dark outside) – it’s much more fun then…
The Limelight Marketplace is said to be one of the most iconic places of New York City. Inside you will find (slightly separated) everyday fashion, shoes, accessories, home products, evening wear, a pizzeria, a snack bar, a wine bar and a to-die-for ice cream bar within those 25ooo square foot a little closer to heaven. Besides all the purchasable goodies you should check out the whole scenery and the lovely stained glass windows, too. Entertained by the DJ (situated right at the entrance) you might want to stroll around this wonderful marketplace a little longer so plan to take some time…
The pizzeria alone – Grimaldi’s – is legendary in New York. This is their first branch in Manhattan and accordingly long can the queues turn out… But as there is so much to see during waiting time I highly recommend to consider waiting. After all the Limelight Marketplace is far more than just the Most Unusual Use of an Old Nightlife Space 2010 as voted by The Village Voice in their Best Of New York Poll.
Find it in 656 Avenue of the Americas (between 20th and 21th street) and online at www.limelightshops.com. (Online shop is coming soon!)
