Kafi Schnaps / Zurich
A little off road can be refreshing at times – especially if the location is this nice and cozy. Kafi Schnaps is one of the places where you will find it nice and cozy right away (and a little French maybe?). Formerly a butcher shop this is now a very laid-back and young cafe / restaurant with the according clientele and excellent croissants. Swiss tradition meets modern lifestyle: Get some Nussgipfeli (croissant with nuts) and a typical Kafi Schnaps (coffee with, well, schnapps). At lunch it’s usually crowded with people from the neighborhood. What am I saying? Actually the people from the neighborhood come here all the time… So be prepared for some local company!
The hotel part is just as charming: All rooms have themes and representative names like Kirsch, Williams, or Pfluemli (all appearing to be different sorts of schnapps). The latter, for example, is their plum-themed double with TV and balcony aka the “suite”. On the website it is much more illustriously described: “It is comfortably furnished and offers everything you need for a romantic weekend away. Bask in the sun on the balcony in summer or in front of the original tiled wood-burning stove in winter. And beware – plums are said to have a certain aphrodisiacal effect.” You name the schnapps - you get the schnapps…
Find it in Kornhausstrasse 57, Zurich or online at www.kafischnaps.ch.
